“LONG CASTS AND SHORT STRIKES”
JULY 2010
JULY CLUB MEETING – FRIDAY, THE ALREADY COME AND GONE
As you can already tell by the header and date of our meeting, as usual, I have fallen way behind the schedule that I like to try and maintain. I’m not even going to try and make an excuse, you would all know that I was BS’ing anyway.
We did have another great turn out for our July meeting. If you were not there, I was quite pleasantly surprised Friday afternoon to get a phone call from my Son who was unloading in Pensacola and would be able to spend the weekend with me. He is an over the road trucker, lives in Kansas and we don’t get to spend near enough time together anymore so when we do get together it’s, “Party Time”. He made it into Crestview in time to be able to attend the meeting with me and I think maybe the party was already starting to show. No harm intended, no harm done. We were even able to get up and go to Seminole early the next morning for a day of fishing which we both enjoyed even though I still can’t find the fish. With all that said, there was not much club business taken care of at the meeting.
I want to say “CONGRATULATIONS” to our June tournament winners at Black Water, if you have not gone to the web site to check it out here is how it stacked up:
1st Place – Greg Prince - 6.76 Lbs 2nd Place – Bob Miles - 5.86 Lbs
3rd Place – Wesley Ard – 2.66 Lbs 4th Place – Michael Smith – 2.50 Lbs
5th Place – Jason Miles – 2.32 Lbs 6th Place – Larry “Stretch” Gaines – 2.16 Lbs
Big Fish – Bob Miles – 4.28 Lbs.
For those of you that attended this tournament, you know what happened. The first time in my short membership and worst nightmare as a club President, we had (4) four boats broke down out on the water at the same time and in several different directions. To make matters worse, my cell phone was not completely charged and was fading fast and of course, I had failed to load everyone’s number in my cell. Let me tell you guys, it was a valuable lesson learned for me. I was not prepared as I constantly ask you guys to be. Shame on me, I am embarrassed by it and should be. Here is the greatest thing that occurred, you guys pulled together as a club, figured out what needed to be done, made a plan and carried it out. There were a few unexpected occurrences during the recovery effort, like one of the recovery boats going down also, but we were able to overcome and get everyone off the water and on to trailers, safely, before dark. Let me tell you something; YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is efforts like this that make our club, the best that there is. I want to personally thank each of you that participated in the recovery and those of you that stuck around the marina until we were sure everyone was ok. What a GREAT EFFORT GUYS, you make us all proud.
On the same note, as promised, I have gotten a new cell phone that works, and I have loaded every club member’s cell number in to it. I feel pretty comfortable that one of you guys will be able to show me how it works when I need it… LOL,LOL,LOL Didn’t say I like them now, just realize that they can be very important. And just as an add on, not to ruffle any feathers, a full tank of gas in your boat could also be very important.
I was contacted last week by Tony Bigot who in turn had been contacted by a young lady who wanted to know if we, the Hub City Bassmasters, would be able to do something for the “Make A Wish Foundation”. I should have mentioned this at the meeting but failed to do so. I will get back with Tony, try and put all the details together and make a plan to discuss any possible ways to help. I will have more to come on this at the next meeting.
There has been a lot of pre-planning going on for the upcoming County Six Man Tournament and I attended the final planning meeting on this last night. We, the Hub City Bass Masters are ready to go do battle and we are going to give 100% to bring home the bragging rights for the club. The tournament will be on the 31st at Lake Seminole, if you are out or about, come on over and give us some support. Weigh in will be at 3PM at Seminole lodge. I have put this tournament on my agenda list to discuss at our next meeting. It needs a boost and I want to make sure that we as a club are on the same sheet of music as far as support and interest for this event.
With Seminole coming up the 24th, and as hot as it has been, I cannot emphasize enough to take care of yourself on the water by hydrating and taking care of your fish by adding ice or a commercial additive to your live wells.
If you were not aware of it, Hurricane Lake lowered the size limit on it’s bass from 16” to 12” as of 1 July. Hopefully people will start keeping enough of the 12 inch fish to try and even the ratio out so that more bass can start getting a little bigger without so much competition. I have a brother in law that is steady working on them.
Going to make this a short one this month. If you guys have anything that you want placed in the newsletter, please let me know. The Dog Days of summer has hit this big ole fat boy and between work and work I struggle to stay motivated. Need you guys to provide me input. See you all at Seminole on the 24th, be safe in your practice times.
Bass Wishes,
Jack
